FAQs

How much should I donate?

How much you contribute per meal is entirely up to you! We suggest a minimum of $5 because that is typically how much a meal would cost. It’s okay if you go a little under or over!

What if I cannot fast?

There are still many ways to help!

  1. You can put a twist on the regular fasting: abstain from something else that’s not food. For example, if you typically buy coffee, then you can abstain from that for one day and donate the cost of it. Or, if you typically go out to watch a movie on weekends, then maybe you can do something else one weekend and donate the cost of your ticket. There are many luxuries in our lives every day that we take for granted; surely there must be something we can live without for one day.
  2. You can just simply donate.
  3. Spread the word. Tell your friends, family, co-workers, classmates, etc. What’s important is getting the word out

What if I cannot afford to donate, but still want to participate?

That is okay, too! We understand that everyone is in different financial situations. You can still help out by telling people about Pacific Fast for Haiti.

Why is the deadline February 12th? Isn’t there an urgent need?

Yes, there is an urgent need. However, in order to have many students on campus have the opportunity to participate, we decided to set a later deadline to give organizations and students time to incorporate it into their agendas. Donations will still be needed in February, especially with the hurricane and flood season coming up.

How long should I fast for?

For safety reasons, we recommend no more than 3 meals or 24 hours. The number of hours does not really matter because we are counting by meal, not hour.

Can I take pledges?

No, simply because it would make donation collection difficult since there would be more people to keep track of.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask by emailing us at pacificfastforhaiti@gmail.com! Other people might have the same questions, too, and it would help them out.
